Set along the rugged shoreline of Gabriola Island, STRAND is a bespoke coastal residence where contemporary architecture, refined craftsmanship, and the raw beauty of the West Coast come together.

Designed to feel both striking and understated, the home is defined by clean architectural lines, expansive glazing, and a carefully curated palette of steel, wood, concrete, and natural textures. Every element was considered to create a residence that feels sophisticated without being excessive — allowing the architecture, materials, and surrounding landscape to speak for themselves.

Inside, polished concrete floors with integrated radiant heating establish a seamless foundation throughout the home. Soaring expanses of glass draw in natural light and frame the surrounding landscape, while eight-foot solid doors, flush inset baseboards, drywall window returns, custom millwork, and refined architectural hardware create an exceptionally clean interior.

A suspended fireplace anchors the main living space as a sculptural centrepiece, reinforcing the home's balance between warmth and contemporary design.

Outside, weathered steel is paired with warm landscapes and modern cladding to create a distinctly West Coast exterior. The materials were selected not only for their appearance today, but for the way they will weather and evolve with the coastal environment over time.

Behind the architecture is an equally considered approach to building performance. STRAND incorporates a high-performance building envelope with continuous exterior mineral-wool insulation, meticulous air-barrier detailing, and a rainscreen assembly designed for the demands of the West Coast climate. During construction, the home achieved an exceptional 0.83 ACH airtightness result before insulation and vapour barrier were installed — a testament to the precision and care invested in the building from the inside out.

STRAND represents the kind of home Velsen Homes strives to create: highly personal, architecturally distinctive, beautifully executed, and built without compromise.
